Getting the word out about the boutique hotel in Portland's Old Town/Chinatown district
The Challenge
WPR was challenged of spreading the workd about one of the coolest additions to Portland hospitality and lodging offerings is The Society Hotel—a boutique hotel with a hostel component in the city’s Old Town/Chinatown district.
It’s not just a 135-year-old structure with a cast-iron front, but a living, iconic addition to the Portland visitor scene. It is also a beacon in the revival and revitalization of historic Old Town/Chinatown.
The Goal & Strategy
WPR produced a PR plan, which included key messages, media training, media tours, press releases, media for the grand opening and more. The long-term goal was to establish the surrounding neighborhood as the festive epicenter of Chinatown, an effort that can serve as a national model to revitalize Chinatowns in other metro areas.
We also helped announce the opening of The Society Hotel’s fabulous second location in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area in the 80-year-old Bingen School in Bingen, Wash.
The Society Hotel Bingen has a hybrid lodging model, with Nordic-esque cabins, European-style hotel rooms and stylish, affordable bunks. With an indoor/outdoor spa, a unique underground sanctuary for yoga, meditation and more, a cafe + bar for pre-adventure fueling and post-adventure drinks, it’s the perfect basecamp for Gorge adventurers and respite-seekers alike.
The Press Kit
We distributed a press kit to targeted media. Coverage was phenomenal, including The New York Times, Portland Mercury, Travel Portland, The Bulletin (Bend, Ore.), the Los Angeles Times, Travel + Leisure, Oregon Jewish Life, The Oregonian and many more.
The Results
The new location received a 2019 Travel Award from Sunset magazine and has been featured in The Daily Beast, The Boston Globe, Portland Monthly, Seattle Met, Portland Business Journal, Lacamas Magazine, Hood River News, White Salmon Enterprise, Hospitality Design, Bloomberg Pursuits, Red Tricycle, and on the cover of The Gorge Magazine.
