The Challenge

WPR was asked to help unveil Nike Portland, a new Nike concept store that was created to inspire the athlete in all of us. The store, designed to optimize energy efficiency and incorporate recycled and reclaimed materials, is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council and has been designed to anticipate LEED Platinum Certification standards.

The Results

“Strolling through Nike Portland is like traveling through a mid-20th century fieldhouse mixed with a sense of cutting-edge design,” wrote The Oregonian reporter Allan Brettman about Nike’s stunning new retail store in downtown Portland.

In addition to coverage in The Oregonian, the new store was featured in more than 60 local stories, including in the Portland Business Journal, Freshnessmag.com, all six area TV stations (KPTV, KGW, KOIN, KPDX, NW Cable News, KATU), Sustainable Business Oregon and KEX Radio. We also tracked social media coverage, which was extensive and extremely positive.

The best part: The store celebrated 39 years of the Swoosh’s history in Oregon, as well as the great Steve Prefontaine, Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. Nike is the state’s most successful publicly held company, and its economic impact is far reaching. So, too, is its community involvement, from the Nike Foundation’s investment in The Girl Effect to the Nike School Innovation Fund.
