Google’s first data center is located in our hometown of The Dalles, Ore. As part of their dedication to supporting STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education, they had the novel idea of engaging middle and high school students in the Columbia Gorge in the Gorge Gravity Games—a soapbox derby build/race in downtown.
We helped Google organize the games, engaged April Severson Events to produce the event, created a visual identity and website, conceived of newspaper and radio ads, reached out to community VIPs and elected officials, and publicized the event and results.
The best part: Students had a blast, and it was fun to watch The Dalles Police write them tickets for speeding (students did figure out the tickets were not real).
