MTV Iggy Brings Out Portland Steampunkers

Or better yet, party with Iggy. A select group of Portlanders recently got the chance when Iggy and Australian indie rock band The Jezabels came to town. City scenesters and trendsetters needed to know first, since a limited number of invitations were up for grabs. Potential attendees had to Tweet to learn of the location—and then show up wearing steampunk regalia. Great idea, huh?

Iggy partnered with Intel, a major local enterprise and employer, for the secret party, and Weinstein PR handled public relations and recruited a variety of resources to pull it off including local advertising, connections to three area steampunk groups, and a resource for street-team promotions.

Our favorite discovery on this project: Who knew Portland had such a thriving steampunk movement? Partygoers played the part and packed onto a riverboat to feast on great live music and Willamette River views. Stories ran on KGW TV, Byron Beck’s blog and a host of music blogs, helping Intel reach a young audience and MTV Iggy gain intimate contact with Portland music fans.
