Friends of Trees 2010-11 Campaign

Friends of Trees is a Portland nonprofit that’s been around for about 20 years. They are all about preserving and enhancing the city’s treed neighborhoods, and they plant thousands of trees in the area (as you might guess).

Weinstein PR works with a number of ad agencies that do great work, and Friends of Trees happens to work with one of our favorites: Frank Creative. Frank and company do just beautiful stuff, but they don’t do public relations, so we got to help with that. Last year Frank came up with a fabulous campaign titled “Plant It!” that featured posters and billboards designed by local artist Amy Ruppel. We came in and helped tell the story about the campaign to local media, including enlisting the mayor to do a tree planting on TV and a special delivery of tree seedlings to 100 local influencers with information on the campaign.

The best part(s): The campaign won an award from the Public Relations Society of America, Oregon Chapter. It was also a grassroots effort, with the client, ad agency, artist and public relations firm all homegrown in Oregon. Not bad for a local initiative.
